The Invisible Visible – is an experiential installation that encourages curiosity and kinship and the act of embodied listening using visualised sound as a portal into the unseen. Soundscapes from Muriwai at moments in time and space were translated into crafted material forms revealing the invisible element of sound through the alchemy of water and light. An organic artwork of the voices of participants also ‘grew’ throughout the exhibition. All as a gentle nudge to the art of giving attention to wonder, beauty, joy, loss and kinship to this living Earth … now.
You Were Hear | An event-based exhibition exploring the connection to our journey through space and time using the visualisation of sound and the human voice. Participants were invited to speak into a microphone, whereby a moment of sound was captured, visually translated using liquid and light and projected onto the gallery wall. The participant received printed ephemera of their sound signature at that moment in space and time as evidence of their participation in the event. A larger version of the printed image was placed on the wall which grew throughout the day to capture the moments in time of all participants.
You Are Hear - A Muriwai Symphony | An experiential installation exploring the act of embodied listening and the material alchemy of visualising the unseen.
Soundscapes comprising of three landscapes at Muriwai at a moment in time and space, translated into crafted material forms making the invisible element of sound … visible. A gentle nudge to the art of giving attention to wonder, beauty, joy, loss and kinship to this living Earth … now.
Recorded soundscapes of the rockpools, the Tākapu colony and the Kauri forest are revealed through the alchemy of liquid and light. Using digital technologies and traditional crafts methods, these sound patterns are ‘fossilised’ in porcelain artefacts and textile veils; a way of translating and capturing moments in time of presence in these environments.
The public is invited to immerse themselves in the three landscapes of Muriwai with the soundscapes as their guide.

Making Magic - the Painting | The patterns in nature both seen and unseen are magically similar. Natural sounds captured and visualised through a special technique are the basis for these ‘paintings’ which have a transparent and ephemeral quality. Transparency, movement and colour being an on-going theme in the artist’s work.

Boundaries in Motion | An installation which invites one to contemplate the subtle energy that lies between boundaries through the use of colour, light and subtle motion in the form of a textile screen. The boundary movement is captured on multiple levels; through the textiles themselves, the moveable frames on which the works are displayed as well as the movable floor tiles. In scrolling the textiles the colours and pattern interact, shifting light. A whisper to the notion that everything is always in flux, always in flow, revealing the essence of the boundaries and the spaces in between.

All That’s Left Behind | An event-based installation that follows this artist’s search for lost creativity and a deeper understanding of what it means to live life well. The art of living is no more challenged than with the passing of the living. Where does creativity exist when one is in deep loss. Where does it hide when one can’t find it? Immersion in and the observation of the intense beauty and power of the natural world provides a much-needed balm for the pain. The process of making provides the path amidst the questioning and the uncertainty. What to share? With whom? Why? Do I have a choice? This is personal. In the creation of these porcelain objects, there was no intentional expectation in the outcome, only a purposeful curiosity of the process. Choosing the material. Observing the feeling of the material in the hands when it was wet. The sound of the scraping of the dried clay off the table. The beauty of the hollow spaces revealed as a result of the firing. The sound of the finished porcelain piece. All resulting in a deep understanding that with the passing of the living what is left behind is still intensely beautiful.
Assumed / Presumed | An exploration of colour that reflects on a day in the life of yellow, red and blue; the three primary colours as suggested by the basic colour theory of Charles Hayter’s color diagram of 1826 - A New Practical Treatise on the Three Primitive Colours Assumed as a Perfect System of Rudimentary Information.Through the photographic exploration of natural light and of living objects; the lemon, the tomato and the sky, we see the changing colours of each throughout a day. Assumptions, dependencies and interruptions are many. The time of day, the interruption of a cloud, the chosen settings of a camera, the chosen paper to print on, the chosen printer, the perceptions and processing of our individual brains.
In Conversation| A sculptural work exploring the energy between objects. How the natural movement of one affects the others.
